Bus driver with 14 school kids caught ignoring stop sign

The eagle-eyed Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers yesterday said they had spotted – of all people – a school bus driver with children inside, ignoring a roadway stop sign.

The incident took place near Aspen Springs and Westside Drive in Bowmanville, Clarington.

A school bus (top image) with 14 kids ran the stop sign on the way to school this morning, said officers from the DRPS East Division.

“Pay attention to the roads!,” they warned.

Speeding and Weather

DRPS West Division wondered if the weather had an impact on speeding in its jurisdiction yesterday.

“I’m not sure if it’s the weather, but a lot of excessive speeding this afternoon,” said an officer, who had backed up Traffic Services on a stunt traffic stop at Sideline 4 and Hollywood Court in the City of Pickering.

It also could have been relief at finding the roads clear after hours of traffic delays in and around Highway 401 due to Monday night’s fatal crash.

At least one diver’s licence was suspended, vehicle impounded and a court date issued.

Meanwhile DRPS North Division traffic conducted a successful two-day distracted driving, seatbelt and cell phone, enforcement initiative in Port Perry and Uxbridge.

“Please wear your seatbelt and only use your phone on hands free while driving,” police advised.
