CAM presents four-point support request to Oshawa

The Canadian Automotive Museum (CAM) has formally requested the City of Oshawa for funding support.

In a letter to the Oshawa Mayor and City Council, CAM requested:

  1. A review of all city funding streams for external agency cultural funding for 2023, to more equally allocate funds between Oshawa’s cultural institutions.
  2. Reinstatement of an annual operating grant for the Canadian Automotive Museum that had previously been in place for decades.
  3. Approval of a Council Directive to support long-term capital projects.
  4. Property tax relief that is standard across the province for not-for-profit museums.

“Our position is that the City of Oshawa has a golden opportunity to invest in the growth and development of the Canadian Automotive Museum, one of the region’s top-rated cultural attractions and a cornerstone of Oshawa’s downtown. Working together we can expand our building and secure our ability to serve audiences for generations to come,” said Alexander Gates, CAM Executive Director and Curator.

He said the request follows the approval of CAM’s 2022-2024 strategic plan, on August 5, 2022.

“I look forward to sharing the Mayor and Oshawa City Council’s response with you,” Gates added.
