Canadians repatriated from Grand Princess

Ottawa: A plane secured by the government to repatriate Canadians who were aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship, has arrived in Canada from the United States.

Before boarding, passengers were screened for symptoms. Anyone exhibiting symptoms of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) was not permitted to board.

At 6:15am ET yesterday, 228 passengers arrived on the plane at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton, said a media release from Global Affairs Canada.

Upon landing, the returning passengers were screened at CFB Trenton by quarantine officers and then met by officers from the Canada Border Services Agency. They will be subject to a 14-day quarantine period and undergo the same medical assessment and observation as those Canadians who were previously repatriated from Wuhan, China, and Japan.

“We continue to work around the clock to provide assistance and consular services to Canadians in areas affected by COVID-19, including those who were aboard the Grand Princess. We will continue to provide full support to Canadians who remain in San Francisco,” said François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
