Car thieves tried to buy $5,000 goods with stolen card

Two suspects were arrested after leaving a hardware store in Whitby on Thursday evening, according to police.

On March 17 at about 8:50 pm, members of Central West Division responded to the Home Depot on Garden Street for two males that were observed to be in a stolen vehicle. The males had attended the store and attempted to purchase over $5,000 in products with a credit card that was not theirs. The transaction was declined and as they left the store, members of our Tactical Support Unit arrested the two suspects. Police seized a small quantity of crystal meth on one of the suspects and seized the stolen vehicle, said a police statement.

One suspect from Toronto, is charged with: Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and Fraud Over $5,000.

Another of No Fixed Address, is charged with: Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000, Fraud Over $5,000 and Unlawfully Possess Schedule I Substance (crystal meth).
