RIDE checks spot just one impaired on St. Patrick’s Day

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday announced that only one person was booked for impaired driving during St. Patrick’s Day.

“Last night our Traffic Enforcement Unit conducted St. Patricks Day R.I.D.E spot checks in Whitby, Oshawa and Courtice,” said a police tweet announcing the following results:

  • 1 Impaired
  • 1 Three-Day Suspension
  • 26 Highway Traffic Violations
  • 3 ASD tests

DRPS had earlier warned drivers to be careful.

“Our RIDE teams are out today keeping our roadways safe from impaired drivers. Celebrate St. Patricks’ Day with a designated driver or using a car service.”

129kmh in 50-zone

Separately, DRPS West Division conducted speed enforcement along Bayly Street near Liverpool Road in the City of Pickering on March 17.

Thirty-five tickets were issued. The fastest speed recorded was 129kmh in a 50kmh zone, it said.
