Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday charged two women who allegedly left their young children in a vehicle while they attended the casino.
Security located the children playing on the roadway and brought them to safety, said a police satement.
Children’s Aid Societies (CAS) has been contacted regarding this incident and has opened an investigation, police said.
On Monday April 8 at about 7:45pm, members of West division responded to a check on well-being called at the Pickering Casino located at 888 Durham Live Avenue.
Casino security located three children, aged 10, 9, and two, alone and unsupervised. The children had been left in a vehicle parked in the casino lot and were found by security playing on the roadway near Church Street.
The eldest child told police that they were left alone by their mother so she could attend the casino. The child also said that they were given a cell phone, but the phone had since died. Security footage revealed the children had been alone and unsupervised for over 4 hours, police said.
The parents of the children were located by police and charged. A 39-year old female from Aurora, who is the mother of the 10 and 9 year olds, is charged with leave child unattended.
A 41-year old female from Markham, who is the mother of the two year old, is charged with leave child unattended.

Hi, Durham Post does not name or identify the accused as:
1. Of this time, they are suspect[s] and not convicted by a court, and
2. Sometimes charges are amended or dropped.
We do, however, provide links to police stories if they are named or have their images shown.
Thank you for your understanding. Have a Great Day!
