Scugog will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Scugog Arena this fall. The Township is inviting the community to come together to celebrate. The arena has been a place where local children first learned how to skate, sports teams celebrated great wins, families celebrated graduations and special events, and where friendships were made. The day will be dedicated to the people and memories that have made the facility an important part of Scugog for the past five decades.
The celebration will take place on Saturday, September 19, at the Scugog Community Recreation Centre and will include a free open house. From 1:00 to 4:00 pm, residents are invited to come by the open house to browse photos and memorabilia, share memories made at the Scugog Arena, enjoy some light refreshments, and connect with others who have been part of the arena’s story.
The celebration continues into the evening with a ticketed 19+ anniversary dance from 7:00 pm to midnight. Highlights include a DJ, light refreshments, licensed bar service, and a great opportunity to celebrate with friends.
“For 50 years, the Scugog Arena has been the cornerstone for so many moments that people carry with them forever,” said Mayor Wilma Wotten. “We’re looking forward to celebrating the many memories made here while recognizing the people who continue to make it such an important part of our community.”
As part of the anniversary celebration, the Township is introducing a new individual sponsorship opportunity. With a minimum donation of $50, community members can have their name added on a commemorative rink board.
Commemorative Scugog Arena 50th anniversary merchandise is also available for purchase. Proceeds from the merchandise sales will go towards supporting the event celebration.
