Uxbridge Township has reported that a child was injured at the Lion’s Universal Accessible Playground in Elgin Park on August 10.
Prior to the Aug 10 incident, the Township had been notified of damage to a piece of playground equipment at Elgin Park.
Three qualified professionals inspected the equipment and determined that maintenance was required, but that it did not present an immediate safety hazard. As a precaution, caution tape was placed around the equipment, and maintenance was scheduled for this week.
Following the incident, a review of security footage showed that the caution tape had been removed by a group of teenagers and the equipment subsequently tampered with, resulting in additional damage. This information forms part of the ongoing investigation.
The Township has stated that they are cooperating fully with the investigation and will take any further action necessary. No further details are available at this time.
Uxbridge in their statement regarding the accident stated that their “concern remains with the child who was injured and their family. We sincerely hope for the child’s full recovery and extend our care and best wishes to the family during what we know is a very difficult time.”
