The Regional Municipality of Durham said it has begun work to replace the temporary bridge currently in place on Beaver River with a permanent structure.
The permanent bridge is anticipated to be complete in 2027. Funding for both the temporary and permanent structures is being provided by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.
It is located east of Beaverton connecting Regional Road 15 in the Township of Brock, supporting residents and the local economy by providing access to Beaverton’s downtown area, local businesses and emergency services.
There was an emergency closure of the Beaver River Bridge for safety reasons on November 16, 2023. On November 14, 2024, a temporary modular bridge system was installed.
To limit the impact on the community, the new bridge will be constructed in stages while maintaining traffic in both directions for the majority of the time.
Traffic Impacts
Lane shifts will be required until the permanent bridge is completed. For the safety of the construction crews and the community, the current 40kmh posted speed limit will remain in place during construction through the bridge site and to the east of the Highway 12 intersection. The speed limit will return to 60kmh once the permanent bridge project has been completed.
