Chance arrest leads to man who robbed three banks

Durham Police investigators have charged a 63-year-old male in connection to three bank robberies in Ajax.

On July 29 at about 2:20 pm, members of West Division were dispatched to the Scotiabank on Harwood Avenue South for a robbery. The lone male suspect entered the bank, passed a note and made a demand for cash. The suspect fled southeast on foot.

On August 5 at around 12:45 pm, the accused entered the TD Canada Trust bank at 83 Williamson Drive and displayed a note to the teller advising that it was a robbery and demanding money. The suspect eventually left the bank without obtaining any cash.

A few hours later, the accused male entered the RBC branch at 320 Harwood Avenue South and displayed a note to the teller advising that it was a robbery and demanding money. The male threatened the teller and fled with cash.

On August 14, the suspect was arrested by the OPP Lennox and Addington Detachment for an unrelated incident and now faces charges for the Ajax robberies.
