Clarington Fitness Centre to reopen on August 10

The Municipality of Clarington will reopen its fitness training centre located at Courtice Community Complex on August 10,

To ensure physical distancing and following all health and safety protocols, the fitness training centre will reopen with limited capacity and pre-registered one-hour workout time slots, said a municipal media statement.

It will be open Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 7 pm, Saturdays and Sundays 7:30 am. to 1 pm. Clarington has established a set of rules to enable a safe reopening, including:

  • Pre-registration for an hour-long workout slot will begin on August 4 at 8 a.m. for the upcoming week starting August 10.
  • Users can register online at www.clarington.net/BeActive or on the phone, 905-987-5667 ext. 2552. Phone registration is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
  • Only fitness memberships will be reactivated at this time; you can also pay as you go to workout.
  • Users will be screened upon entry to the facility and will have to wear a mask as they make their way through the facility to the fitness centre.
  • Designated lineup spots will be marked to ensure physical distancing.
  • Please arrive no more than 10 minutes before your pre-booked workout.
  • Strict physical distancing of two metres will be enforced, including in the fitness area.
  • Fitness participants will be asked to sanitize all equipment after each use.
  • There will be a 30-minute change over in place so that staff can clean and sanitize all equipment between each booking.
  • Changerooms will be closed. Participants will have to arrive wearing workout gear.
  • Gym bags will not be allowed at this time.

Clarington is following all Covid-19 protocols set out by the province and public health to ensure that both staff and residents can access the fitness training centre safely. The municipality said it is taking every precaution to limit the chances of transmission and allow residents to access these vital services that promote both physical and mental health.

“We trust that our residents will be responsible when accessing our facility. If you are sick or feeling under the weather, do not come for a workout, stay home. This is a shared space, and we all share the responsibility to keep it safe,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.
