Clarington proposes one event to honor all local contributions

Clarington officials are asking residents for input on how to recognize community contributions. The municipality is reviewing its methods for acknowledging volunteers, sports figures, and community leaders.

In the past, the town has celebrated these contributions through separate events, including:

  • Clarington Sports Hall of Fame: A formal evening recognizing athletes, coaches and sports teams.
  • Celebrate Sport: An event celebrating local sports and recreation.
  • Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon: An afternoon event honoring volunteers.
  • Recognition at Council Meetings: A segment during council meetings where recipients receive certificates for achievements.

Officials said that they are considering bringing all these events together into one celebration and are seeking public feedback on the matter.

Residents are asked:

  • What type of recognition is most meaningful to you?
  • Would you prefer one combined event, or do separate events work best?
  • How can these celebrations be made more meaningful?

A brief survey is available for residents to share their views and to be entered to win a prize pack.
