Clarington updating Bowmanville core expansion plan

Clarington is creating an updated plan for Bowmanville East that will look at ways to accommodate a variety of housing, businesses, and essential services.

The area, the plan will cover, includes the historic downtown, Bowmanville hospital, Bowmanville mall and former Goodyear lands, said a municipal notice.

It said the plan will re-shape Bowmanville East to include a potential medical campus to support the Bowmanville hospital and mixed-use development on the former Goodyear lands.

The plan will also focus on preserving the heritage character of downtown Bowmanville while improving pedestrian connections to and from the historic downtown to Bowmanville Creek.

The east business district along King Street is envisioned to accommodate new development and create better connections to the hospital and Soper Creek.

A third Public Information Centre on the Bowmanville East Urban Centre Secondary Plan Update will be held on June 1 at 6:30 pm. Residents can join online or by phone.
