Consultant begins talks with PPAS on Port Perry Fairgrounds

The Port Perry Agricultural Society (PPAS) and the Port Perry Fairgrounds visioning consultant, Darwin Logic, have begun discussion and will continue these throughout the project, according to the Township of Scugog.

It said targeted conversations with seniors and youth to gather perspectives across generations, will also be held.

In September, council awarded the contract to Darwin Logic Inc. (operating as Darwin Pivot) in the amount of $92,553 (excluding HST), as a third party consultant for the visioning exercise. The appointment has drawn criticism from activists who want PPAS to continue to manage the fairgrounds.

A Scugog statement said following the first round of engagement, input will be analyzed and summarized in an interim update to council. Council will then consider next steps, including whether to proceed with further community engagement to explore future directions for the fairgrounds.

Scugog — Your Voice, Your Fairgrounds is a community-led initiative focused on listening to citizens about what the Port Perry Fairgrounds means to them and what values should guide its future.

Community Survey

Community survey is now open and registration is required. It will be open until January 26.

The township emphasized that no plans or proposals have been developed as yet.

Earlier this fall, informal community pop-ins were held across the township as early listening opportunities.

The township has called for community connectors who help extend the conversation beyond formal consultation settings. These volunteers gather perspectives through everyday conversations within neighbourhoods, social groups, cultural communities, workplaces, and other local networks. Their involvement helps ensure a broad range of voices from across Scugog are reflected in the process.
