Contractor who took cash and didn’t do jobs arrested

Durham Police have arrested a 31-year-old contractor in a fraud-related investigation after victims from Durham were defrauded on home improvement projects.

Durham Post had reported on the issue earlier this month (see below).

DRPS began an investigation last June into a company. Since then three complainants have come forward and stated they all signed a contract with the company and paid the agreed down payment amount. In all three cases the work was partially done or not done at all. The suspect has defrauded the victims more than $28,000, said a police statement.

Police believe there may be other victims that have yet to report.

The contractor from Ajax was arrested and charged with nine fraud-related offences which include: Fraud Over $5000 x2 and Fraud Under $5000.

Names and further details available at www.drps.ca.

DRPS remind the public to ensure that you take proper steps to identify who you are dealing with and to take your time to thoroughly check contractors before giving them any money.

Anyone with new information that can assist with this investigation is asked to contact Det. Kollaard of the East Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1614.
