Covid Update: Durham Health posts two new covid deaths

Durham Health yesterday confirmed 42 cases of Omicron variant in the region, and revealed it is studying another 832 suspect infections.

It posted 479 new Covid-19 cases for December 23, taking the region’s tally to 30,927 since the count began on February 29, 2020.

At the end of November this year, the total case count had stood at 28,169.

With two new non-LTC deaths posted, Durham’s overall death toll stands at 391, with 227 of them occurring in LTCs (long term care facilities). One new death was reported in Whitby and the other in Oshawa.

Recoveries stand at 28,507. However, there are 2029 active covid cases. Two are hospitalized, with both in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). A total of 2027 people are in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest overall number of covid cases so far in Ajax.

Covid Deaths: 391

Of the 117 reported deaths in Pickering, 87 were in LTC
Of the 69 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Of the 63 reported deaths in Whitby, 31 in LTC
Of the 73 reported deaths in Oshawa, 42 were in LTC
23 deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
26 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
17 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
3 deaths have been reported in Brock
