DRT to open bus windows; Omicron hits staffing, schedules

Durham Region Transit (DRT) has announced that it will open windows on its buses and advised passengers to dress accordingly.

“Please be advised that the increased presence of the Omicron Covid-19 variant in our communities has impacted the availability of Durham Region Transit (DRT) staff,” said a DRT statement.

“While every effort is being taken to minimize service disruptions, we regret that some customers may experience unexpected cancellations of their trips for both scheduled and On Demand service,” it said.

On Sunday, December 26, trips will be cancelled due to staffing shortages impacted by the Omicron Covid-19 variant, DRT said.

“In addition to our current Covid-19 safety measures, DRT will be taking extra precautions to further improve air flow circulation and ventilation onboard buses to help reduce Covid-19 transmission risks. Windows will be opened, and passengers are encouraged to dress accordingly,” it advised.

DRT thanked customers for their patience, understanding and continued support of the operations and all DRT staff.
