Pickering setting up outdoor rinks… weather not helping

Pickering yesterday announced two new outdoor ice rinks that are being set up for residents and visitors.

Coming soon – enjoy Pickering’s new, natural ice rinks, said an Instagram post by the city.

It said staff have been busy preparing the two new rinks, which will be operational when the temperature allows for ice to be made.

“Unfortunately, with the upcoming rain, this may not be possible until next week. Stay tuned for the announcement or take a drive by and see for yourself,” said the city.

The new rinks are located at Rick Hull Memorial Park and Forestbrook Park.

Each rink, 60×100 feet is fenced and secured, with picnic tables and garbage cans nearby. They will be open every day until dusk.

“City staff will aim to clear the snow from the rinks after each weather event, but please note that road and sidewalk winter control operations will take priority. Thanks for your patience and understanding,” the city said.

Whitby Skating

Meanwhile, Whitby said the town is also expecting two outdoor natural ice skating rinks to open in the New Year for residents to enjoy.

However, residents can skate indoors at Iroquois Park Sports Centre or McKinney Centre this holiday season. View the full schedule of public skating and shinny programs at whitby.ca/Skate.
