Non-LTCH covid deaths take Dec toll to 46

Durham Health yesterday added two Covid-19 deaths [for December 18 and 22]  bringing the month’s death count to 46. In November, the region witnessed five covid deaths.

The overall toll now stands at 233, of which 198 were in long term care homes (LTCH).

The two new deaths in Pickering and Ajax were not in LTCHs.

Durham Health reported 121 new Covid-19 cases for December 22 bringing the region’s tally to 6,556 since the count began on February 29. Another 67 cases are under investigation.

Recoveries stand at 5,475, up by 167. There were 848 active covid cases.

According to Durham Health, there were:

  • 57 new cases in Pickering
  • 64 in Ajax
  • 35 in Whitby
  • 66 in Oshawa
  • 10 in Clarington
  • Two in Uxbridge, and
  • Three in Scugog

Thirty-four cases are hospitalized with nine in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 814 people in home isolation.

Durham Health reported the highest number of cases so far at 1,890 in Ajax.

Death Toll:

Of the 90 reported deaths in Pickering, 86 were in LTCH
Of the 42 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTCH
Thirty-three deaths were reported in Whitby, 28 in LTCH
Of the 39 reported deaths in Oshawa, 31 were in LTCH
Eight deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTCH]
21 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTCH
No deaths have been reported in Scugog
No deaths have been reported in Brock
