Help find human trafficking suspect

Police said one male was arrested and a warrant has been issued for a second suspect following a human trafficking investigation in Durham Region.

On November 17, members of the DRPS Human Trafficking Unit made contact with a 19-year-old female victim who advised she was being forced to work in the sex trade and all of her money was being taken by the two suspects.

The victim met the suspect Sydney Bunkuna on a dating app and was brought to various hotels across Ontario. The second suspect Daniel Kaniki also was involved in the process.

On November 19, Sydney Bunkuna, age 22 of Toronto was located and arrested without incident in Mississauga. He is charged with: Trafficking in Persons by Exercising Control; Financial Benefit Trafficking Person Over 18 Years of Age; Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration; Material Benefit from Sexual Services; Procuring/Exercising Control; Recruit Person to Provide Sexual Services for Consideration and Advertising Another Person’s Sexual Services. He was held for a bail hearing.

Through the course of the investigation, Kaniki (also known as King, King Tallaz) was identified and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Daniel Kaniki, age 25, of No Fixed Address, is wanted on the following charges: Procuring Person to Provide Sexual Services for Consideration; Financial Benefit Trafficking Person Over 18 Years of Age; Material Benefit from Sexual Services; Trafficking in Persons by Exercising Control; Obtaining Sexual Services for Considerationand Advertising Another Person’s Sexual Services.

Kaniki also known as “King’ or “King Tallaz” is described as male, black, 6’4″ tall, 170 lbs with short black hair and a short beard.

Investigators are releasing the photo of the wanted suspect Kaniki and police would like to ensure there are no further victims. Kaniki is urged to contact a lawyer and turn himself in at the nearest police station.
