There appear to be major plans to develop a large residential community at Columbus Road East going by the applications to change land-use designations.
Oshawa Council has received an application to amend the Durham Regional Official Plan (Envision Durham), Oshawa Official Plan and Columbus Part II Plan for lands at 201 Columbus Road East.
The Oshawa Economic and Development Services Committee will be considering the application for the lands as shown shaded on the map at a future Planning Act public meeting. The application has been determined to be complete.
The purpose of the application is as follows:
Durham Regional Official Plan Amendment (Envision Durham):
- Amend Map by redesignating the south portion of the 201 Columbus Road East from employment areas to community areas.
Oshawa Official Plan Amendment:
- Amend land use, corridors and intensification areas, by adjusting the boundary of the major urban area to include the entirety of 201 Columbus road east.
- Amend land use, by redesignating the central and south portions of the site from prime agricultural to residential
- Amend renaissance community improvement area and urban growth centre community improvement area, by adding the central and south portions of 201 Columbus road east to sub-area ‘B’
- Adjusting the Part II planning area boundary for the Columbus planning Area to include the central and south portions of the site
Columbus Part II Plan Amendment:
- Adjusting the Columbus Part II plan area boundary to include the central and south portions of the area and designating the land to low and medium density II residential, open space and recreation, neighbourhood park and Collector road
- Amend the Columbus environmental management plan, by adjusting the plan area boundary to include the central and south portion of 201 Columbus Rd. E. and adding areas identified as natural heritage system and hazard lands to the lands subject to the boundary area expansion
The City of Oshawa did not release any development plans.
