Police investigating how cyclist died after crashing into trailer

Durham police yesterday said a cyclist has suffered fatal injuries following a collision in Whitby.

On Friday, August 21 at about 12:30 pm, members of Central West Division responded to a collision involving a cyclist in the area of Coronation Road and Lyndebrook Road. The cyclist was travelling northbound on Coronation Road when he collided with a parked trailer.

Officers arrived on scene and located the 68-year-old cyclist suffering from life threatening injuries. The male was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Members of the DRPS Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roads in the area were closed for several hours while evidence was collected. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
