The Town of Ajax yesterday said residents have received a notice regarding an upcoming public information meeting related to environmental remediation works at 599 Kingston Road West.
The township clarified that the meeting is not related to the demolition order (see below) or the recent court decision associated with the property.
“The meeting is being held by the property owner (First Avenue) as part of its regulatory obligations under the Record of Site Condition (RSC) approval process, related specifically to environmental site remediation activities required for any future development of the site,” said a town statement.
Former Automotive Facility
Soil remediation is required as the site was previously used as an automotive sales and repair facility.
The statement pointed out that the Record of Site Condition process is regulated by the provincial Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.
The town is providing this clarification to ensure residents have accurate information regarding the purpose of the meeting and the regulatory context under which it is being held.
On March 26, the Ontario Divisional Court upheld the demolition order for the property at 599 Kingston Road West, dismissing the appeal brought forward by First Avenue.
The town sought a demolition order for the above-ground structures constructed at the property as they were constructed without a building permit. The demolition order provides a 60-day period for First Avenue to complete the demolition. The town, working closely with legal counsel, will take appropriate steps to see that the demolition order is implemented.
