73-year old driver dies in head-on Oshawa collision

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) this morning said a 73-year-old male is deceased after a head-on collision in North Oshawa.

On Monday, December 5 at about 10:34 am, a fatal collision involving a silver BMW X-5 SUV and large delivery truck occurred on Simcoe Street North near Howden Road. The southbound BMW struck the northbound truck head-on in the northbound lane. The 73-year-old male driver of the BMW was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the delivery truck did not sustain any injuries, said the police statement.

Of note, at 10:23 am, East Division officers were dispatched to the area of Simcoe Street North and Raglan Road for reports from a member of the public of the same silver BMW X-5 driving erratically. Raglan Road is approximately 2.5 km north of the collision scene.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch – Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.

The investigation is continuing with a post-mortem and toxicology test pending.
