Cyber Attack: DDSB postpones OSSLT test to spring

Durham District School Board (DDSB) said given the complexities of the current cyber incident “we have had to make a decision to postpone the writing of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) to the spring for all DDSB students set to write the test this fall.

EQAO provides two administration windows for this online test and schools will plan for their administration in March or April. Specific dates for the spring test will be communicated by individual schools in the new year, the board said.

Privacy Concerns

it said as previously mentioned, work is underway to investigate what happened, the extent of the impact, and if there are privacy concerns to be addressed. This work is extremely complex and will take a significant amount of time to complete. We are committed to sharing more on this topic and what measures, if any, individuals should take once we have more information.

Since November 25’s cyber attack, Durham District School Board (DDSB) teams have been working to restore network and services, and to support students and staff.

Phones, e-mails and internet access at schools are now working and various applications should start coming online.

Chromebooks are able to be used at home and at school. However, we are unable to provide Chromebook support at this time, said a DDSB update.

Parents/guardians should be aware that we are still not able to send an automated message home if a student is not at school. Once this safe arrival system comes back online we will inform you.

“We would like to extend our appreciation to all staff, students, parents/guardians and community members for their understanding and support as we work to get critical systems back online. Thank you once again for your support as we work through this very challenging situation,” said the update.
