Driver in medical distress crashes vehicle into building

Durham Regional Police say a commercial building in Port Perry sustained significant damage after a driver suffered a medical episode and lost control of his vehicle.

Officers from North Division were called to the scene at 1869 Scugog Street around 6:45 am on Saturday, June 28, following reports of a single-vehicle collision.

According to police, a 63-year-old man was driving a grey Toyota Sienna van in a parking lot when he experienced a medical episode. The vehicle struck the building, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage.

Police say the driver was not injured.

Due to the extent of the structural damage, members of the Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
