DRPS promises increased vigilance at Cedar and Wentworth

The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has promised heightened vigilance at Cedar and Wentworth in Oshawa, according to the area councillor.

“We have issues with loitering, dumping waste and garbage, open drug and alcohol use and harassment of persons wishing to use the 7-11, the Beer Store and the Plaza on Cedar. This is not acceptable,” said Councillor Brian Nicholson Ward 5 Oshawa and Durham Council.

He pointed out these issues come up every summer with the properties west and south of the 7-11 gas station at Cedar and Wentworth Street West.

Nicholson said he had once again contacted city bylaw enforcement and the Durham Regional Police to address these issues – and received a quick response from the police.

“Hello Councillor Nicholson, I will have our Community Response Unit staff take a look and see what they can do in the area. They will liaise with the property owners to ensure we have consent to act on their behalf. Thanks for bringing this to our attention,” the councillor quoted the police response.

He said he will keep working on these issues until they are resolved.

Nicholson asked if residents have knowledge of any other areas in ward 5, where something similar is happening, to contact him and he will follow up on those locations as well.
