Durham animal shelter becomes victim of a scam

The Township of Uxbridge has warned Durham residents to beware when purchasing products featuring the Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter logo – you may not be supporting the shelter but a fraudster instead.

The townships of Scugog and Uxbridge have informed the public that there is an unauthorized third party promoting and selling products featuring the Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter logo.

Neither Scugog nor Uxbridge is affiliated with this entity. The sales made are not connected to either the existing shelter or the new shelter project and are considered fraud.

Both townships are addressing the matter. Any legitimate fundraising initiatives in support of the Uxbridge-Scugog Animal Shelter will be communicated through official township channels, including the Township of Scugog and Township of Uxbridge websites.

The township statement did not say if the fraud has been reported to the police.
