An au pair found via Facebook suffered sexual assault at the hands of the father of her host family in Oshawa, police said.
In 2025, the victim contacted a male and female with several children, via a Facebook Au Pair Group, to come to Canada to work informally as an au pair.
In December 2025, the victim arrived in Canada, and resided with the suspect and his spouse at their home, in exchange for providing child care.
On Friday, December 12, the suspect gave the victim ice cream. Soon after consuming the ice cream the victim reported feeling incoherent and eventually going unconscious, with no recollection of the night. The victim sought medical attention and it was later confirmed that a noxious drug was present in her system, police said.
In early 2026, a search warrant was executed at the suspect’s residence in Oshawa. Several electronic devices as well as the same drug used in the offense were located and seized.
Investigators analyzed these devices and found further evidence to support the investigation. Additionally, evidence of child sexual abuse and exploitation materials were found.
On Wednesday, June 10, investigators with the Special Victims Unit took the suspect into custody without incident.
Investigators have concerns there are additional victims. A photo of the accused can be viewed at www.drps.ca.
The 38-year old man from Oshawa was held for a bail hearing.
