Warrant issued after two criminal tourists were deported

Two men from Romania, who have been deported, are now wanted by police for fraudulently purchasing a vehicle from dealerships in Pickering.

Last December 18, a 48-year old man attended a Pickering dealership and purchased a 2022 BMW X5 SUV valued at $50,000, using fraudulent documents.

Almost two weeks later, on December 30th,  another man aged 34, used fraudulent documents to purchase a 2021 BMW X5 SUV valued at $55,000 from a Pickering dealership.

Both vehicles were then exported out of Canada before police were able to intervene.

The two wanted men have been identified as criminal tourists; as part of Project Jetsetter. A project created with the goal of combating criminal tourism.

Deported Before Arrest

On Sunday, February 8, the first accused was removed from Canada. On Saturday, May 9, the second accused man was removed from Canada.

Now a warrant has been issued for their arrest.

Investigators believe this scam is linked to an organized group involved in criminal tourism.
