Durham Covid Update: Cases down but three new deaths

Durham Health yesterday posted 283 new Covid-19 cases for January 19, taking the region’s tally to 47,838 since the count began on February 29, 2020.

At the end of December last year, the total case count had stood at 35,663.

Durham’s overall death toll stands at 401, with 228 of them occurring in LTCs (long term care facilities). The latest non-LTC deaths were posted from Oshawa.

Recoveries stand at 38,998. However, there are 8,439 active covid cases. Figures for hospitalizations and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and people in home isolation, were not available.

Durham Health reported the highest overall number of covid cases so far in Ajax.

Covid Deaths: 401

Of the 121 reported deaths in Pickering, 87 were in LTC
Of the 70 reported deaths in Ajax, 33 were in LTC
Of the 63 reported deaths in Whitby, 31 in LTC
Of the 77 reported deaths in Oshawa, 43 were in LTC
23 deaths were reported in Clarington [none in LTC]
26 deaths were reported in Uxbridge, 20 in LTC
17 deaths have been reported in Scugog, 14 in LTC
4 deaths have been reported in Brock
