Durham installing new residential water meters

The Regional Municipality of Durham yesterday announced that it will be scheduling appointments with property owners whose water meters are 20 years or older.

When: Residents may receive notices beginning the week of March 15.

Why: To upgrade existing water meters and update user accounts to allow the Region of Durham to conduct remote readings.

Note: Durham Region attempts to call the property owner in advance regarding water meter issues, but there isn’t always an active number associated with the property owner. After sending regional notices by mail, a red door hanger notice is used as an additional final notice.

This door hanger includes the region’s logo in red and is legitimate. Durham Region employees conducting water meter replacements and placing door hangers will always carry Durham Region identification.

Residents who receive a notice can follow the instructions on the notice and call the number listed at the bottom and follow the directions listed.
