Durham residents can get two counselling sessions a month

The Region of Durham offers counselling services focused on mental health and relationship support tailored to residents’ needs.

Here and Now Counselling is a service offered by Family Services Durham that focuses on one issue at a time; it provides helpful strategies and support in just one session. With Here and Now Counselling, you can discuss concerns such as:

  • Handling stress or burnout.
  • Coping strategies.
  • Anxiety.
  • Depression.
  • Relationship challenges.
  • Parenting.
  • Managing emotions.
  • Building confidence.
  • Setting goals.
  • Dealing with grief or loss.
  • Adjusting to life changes.

Where: Counselling is provided by registered psychotherapists and social workers at different locations across Durham Region and remotely (by video and/or phone), said a region statement.

You can request a session by completing the online Counselling Request Form or by calling 311 or toll-free at 1-888-721-0622 (Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

After completing an intake to understand your current concerns and hopes, you may be offered a Here and Now Counselling session within two weeks. Eligible clients can attend up to two sessions per month.

Note: This service is available to individuals who are 12 years of age and older; live, work or own property in Durham Region; and who want to discuss a particular topic/area of concern with a counsellor. Fees are based on a sliding scale and will be discussed during your intake.
