Durham restaurants, malls, salons open June 19

Beginning Friday, June 19, Durham Region will officially move into Phase 2 of the provincial reopening plan.

This means that certain establishments can once again open for business, including restaurants, bars, hair salons, malls and more, said John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for the Regional Municipality of Durham.

“This step is a direct result of the dedication of our residents; working together to help protect the health and safety of our communities. You stayed home, practised physical distancing, and followed proper hand hygiene guidelines. You directly helped to flatten the curve. You showed what it means to be in this together,” he said in a statement.

Henry reminded that while this is positive news for the community, “please remember that Covid-19 remains a serious public health risk. That’s why we need to continue following these important public health practices.

“I know we are all working together to ensure Durham Region remains one of the most vibrant, innovative and diverse communities within the Province of Ontario. Thank you to everyone who continue to stand by our local businesses and shop local,” he said.

“Finally, I would like to thank our public health officials, essential and front-line workers who stand at the forefront during this difficult time. As a community we stand together. We continue to show our adaptability and perseverance through this unprecedented challenge. Stay healthy. Stay safe. Stay #Durham Strong,” Henry added.
