Durham restaurateur who gave staff noxious chocolates, released

Durham Police yesterday said a restaurant owner is facing charges after two individuals have come forward to report being given a substance without knowing the contents.

On June 3, members of DRPS’ Central West Criminal Investigation Bureau concluded an investigation into allegations that a restaurant owner administered a noxious substance to two individuals on separate occasions.

Two victims came forward to police and advised that the owner of the restaurant located at Dundas Street West in Whitby, had given them unwrapped chocolate which caused them both to have similar side effects on their physical health. The owner was arrested without incident after police executed a search warrant at his business.

Police believe there may be other victims and are asking anyone with information to come forward to investigators.

The restaurateur, age 48 from North York, was charged and released on an undertaking. Name and further details available at www.drps.ca.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact D/Cst. Roffey or D/Cst. Trafford of the Central West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1877/1831.

Editor’s Note: Durham Post does not name or identify the accused as:
