Even a ditch didn’t stop erratic driver from trying to flee

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) yesterday said a 27-year old male from Oshawa is facing several charges after a patrol unit from DRPS North Division spotted him driving erratically in the area of Shirley Road and Simcoe Street.

On January 15 at about 1 am, a patrol officer saw a vehicle being driven erratically with a flat tire. The officer called in a secondary cruiser to assist, and once in position, both turned on their lights to initiate a traffic stop, said a police statement.

The suspect tried to go around the cruiser in front and struck it…then reversed and struck the second cruiser behind him.

The officers were able to box him in, pushing the vehicle into a ditch, where the suspect then attempted to drive away before getting stuck in a cornfield.

There were no injuries, and the driver was arrested.

Please don’t drive impaired, police said.
