An extensive search for a missing teenager, who was wearing only pajamas, ended successfully on Thursday night after about two hours.
On December 12 at 10:30 pm, officers were called about a missing, vulnerable 18-year-old female near Phillip Murray Avenue and Oxford Street in Oshawa. She had left home after an argument around 10 pm and was wearing only pajamas. She was not wearing a coat, shoes or a toque and the outside temperature was 0° Celsius, with wind chills of -4° Celsius, said a Durham Police media release.
A full scale search of the area was launched, including officers from multiple divisions, supported by police helicopter Air1 and two K9 Units. All area streets and parks were searched as officers checked laneways, backyards and other spaces in an effort to locate her. A search master was called in, as was the Public Search Unit to assist with the search, it added.
Just prior to a media release being issued, a constable from Central East Division located the teen walking northbound on Simcoe Street near Wentworth. He got her into the cruiser to warm her up and all of her extremities were extremely cold. She couldn’t stop shaking and the officer drove her directly to Lakeridge Health – Oshawa for treatment, the release said.
She had been outside walking barefoot for almost two hours, wearing only pajamas. The DRPS would like to thank all of the frontline officers and specialty units who participated in this search, it added.
