Durham Police said a 46-year-old female is facing numerous fraud charges after renting out a room under false pretences in Ajax.
On February 21, West Division members became aware of an incident where a female who went by the name of Tracy Dewolfe was renting out a room in a home on Telford Street in Ajax. Tracy would post ads on Facebook marketplace and Kijiji listing a room for rent.
After potential tenants viewed the room, she would accept first and last months rent but then never allow anyone to move in. An investigation commenced and officers uncovered 16 separate incidents where this practice took place, said a police statement.
The suspect from was charged , police said.
