Fight Hunger Month: Food bank visits up 250%

Durham Region municipalities are once again uniting in support of National Hunger Action Month this September, raising awareness, food donations, and funds to fight hunger in the community.

Hunger continues to affect individuals, seniors, and families across the region. With Durham’s rapid growth and the rising cost of food, more people are relying on food banks and related services than ever before.

According to Feed the Need in Durham, food bank visits in the region have increased by more than 250 per cent since 2020.

From September 1 to 28, residents, businesses, and community groups can contribute by donating non-perishable food items at drop-off locations across Durham. Information on where to donate is available through local municipal websites, including:

All donations will be collected by Feed the Need in Durham and distributed through local food banks to support families in need.

Monetary donations are also encouraged. For every $1 donated, Feed the Need in Durham can collect, store, and distribute two meals and other essential products to people across the Region.
