Firearm found inside impaired driver’s car

A driver was found in possession of a firearm during a traffic stop in Oshawa.

On Saturday, August 21, at approximately 2:00 am, a member from Central East Division observed a vehicle speeding through a construction zone in the area of Harmony Road North and Adelaide Avenue East. The vehicle was travelling 90 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone.

The officer pulled the vehicle over and, upon further investigation, suspected the driver was impaired. The driver refused to provide a proper sample for the approved screening device. The male was arrested. When the vehicle was searched, a firearm was located inside.

Mayuran Sriskandarajah, age 35 of Westfield Drive in Whitby, has been charged with: Stunt Driving; Refuse to Comply with Demand -Approved Screening Device; Careless Storage of a Firearm; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm Knowing it is Unauthorized; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Car; Possession of a Loaded Prohibited Firearm and Fail to Comply with Release Order.

He was held for a bail hearing and his vehicle was impounded.
