Free parking, expedited approval of patios

The Town of Whitby is extending some of its Covid-19 related supports for local businesses as provincial restrictions related to the pandemic continue.

Supports include extended free downtown parking, said a town statement.

Based on feedback from businesses and the Downtown Whitby Business Improvement Area (BIA), the Town of Whitby will continue to offer parking supports for businesses in Downtown Whitby, including:

  • Free Parking – all on-street meter and municipal lot parking in Downtown Whitby will continue to be free. Municipal lot parking will also continue to be free in Downtown Brooklin.
  • 15-minute Parking Spaces – the town will continue to offer 15-minute parking at more than 20 of its metered on-street parking locations in Downtown Whitby to help support safe curbside pick-up.

Expedited approval of outdoor patios

With spring fast approaching and Whitby now in the Red-Control Level, the town is once again helping to make it easier for local businesses to expand or reopen outdoor patios by waiving application fees and extending the expedited approval and permitting process.

The goal is to support local businesses in their ongoing business operations and provide residents with opportunities to enjoy local establishments safely as the weather gets warmer, said the statement.
