Future Olympians: RBC training selections come to Durham

Canada’s official Olympic talent search – RBC Training Ground – is holding an event in Oshawa towards the end of the week.

RBC Training Ground is open to any athlete from any sport, between the ages of 14 and 25.

Since its inception in 2016, RBC Training Ground has helped 21 program alumni reach the Olympic Games, 12 of whom have brought home medals for Team Canada, according to event organizers. Most recently, 16 program alumni were named to Team Canada for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Olympians and program ambassadors Maddy Kelly (athletics, Tokyo 2020) and Sam Schachter (beach volleyball, Paris 2024 and Rio 2016) will both be in attendance at the Oshawa event. Kelly, an 800m specialist, was also a four-time U Sports champion (University of Toronto). Both Olympians will be providing mentorship on-site.

At RBC Training Ground’s qualifying events, athletes do speed, strength, power and endurance testing in front of 15 National Sport Organization partners, according to event officials. The Top 100 athletes from qualifiers will advance to the National Final, and up to 35 RBC Future Olympians will receive funding and resources to further develop in their sport, an increase in total funded athletes from previous years

When and Where: Sunday February 23, event starts at 9 am, to about 1 pm, Ontario Tech University, Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre, 2000 Simcoe Street North; Oshawa, ON L1G 0C5
