Geotechnical works for GO expansion to impact Bloor, 401

Metrolinx and City of Oshawa have announced the scheduling of works along Bloor Street and Highway 401 to support GO expansion projects.

Work is progressing to extend the GO train network east from Oshawa via Courtice to Bowmanville in Clarington.

Starting today (January 8) into February, Metrolinx crews will be completing a geotechnical investigation along Bloor Street and Highway 401 just west of Stevenson Road to support GO expansion projects, said a statement issued by both separately.

It, however, cautioned that the work start date is tentative and may be rescheduled due to a variety of factors. Work will occur subject to winter weather conditions.

The statement said there will be intermittent and temporary lane closures during a four-week period starting January 8. “Crews will be working at select locations along Bloor Street and Highway 401. There will be signage set up to notify residents of the road closure and to detours around the works.”

Work on  Highway 401 is scheduled between the hours of 10 pm and 5:30 am, while works at Bloor Street are between the hours of 9 am and 3:30 pm.

The statement said there will be temporary, single lane closure on Highway 401 at night, for approximately one week. as well as single lane closure on Bloor Street during the day for a week. Lane closures on Highway 401 and Bloor Street will not occur simultaneously. Traffic flow in all directions is to be maintained during work.

It said there will be minor impact to pedestrians along Bloor Street as crews will be operating along Bloor Street adjacent to the south sidewalk. Pedestrian use of the Bloor Street south sidewalk will be maintained throughout the duration of work.

There are no anticipated transit impacts from the upcoming works.
