Glen Stewart Park gets new playground, splash pad

Oshawa: Glen Stewart Park has got a new splash pad and playground in a move to encourage community members to stay active and enjoy the outdoors this summer.

Glen Stewart Park is located at 201 Cabot Street (west of Stevenson Road and north of Gibb Street). These elements are now open for public use; the splash pad is operational between 10 am and 8 pm daily, said a city statement.

Redeveloped areas of the park include a new playground that incorporates a mix of junior and senior play features with a fully accessible rubberized safety surface, a splash pad featuring a multitude of spray features, shaded seating areas, naturalized plantings for enhanced pollinator habitat and ecological diversity in the site, and a new parking area with four accessible spaces.

Additionally, the access to the existing clubhouse has been enhanced with the creation of a new driveway and pedestrian connection.

The park has also retained its two small ball diamonds, passive play areas and the gravel parking lot.

Community members, including the park’s neighbourhood residents, are invited to the official ribbon cutting of the playground on Monday, August 26 at 10 am.

The project began construction in fall 2018 following public engagement in 2016 and 2017, where feedback was sought to guide the redevelopment.
