Buses to replace GO trains from Friday till Monday start

Metrolinx has announced that Lakeshore East rail service will be temporarily suspended from Friday July 21 at approximately 9 pm until end of service on Sunday July 23.

GO shuttle buses will be replacing train service between the Durham College Oshawa, Whitby, Ajax, and Pickering GO stations and the Union Station bus terminal.

The operator of GO said these temporary changes are critical for the expansion of the Lakeshore East rail corridor and will enable it to complete necessary preparatory work for the Ontario Line subway. Regular service will resume on Monday, July 24.

Buses do not have the same capacity as trains and may experience longer than normal travel times. Depending on destination, customers may wish to use other GO Transit options, including GO Bus Routes 92 or 96 to connect with local transit. Additional information on service adjustments is available here.

Metrolinx encouraged riders to use gotransit.com or triplinx.ca to plan their trips as schedules and connection times have changed for this weekend. Customers can also check the GO Transit Service Updates page for real-time details.

This weekend, important work will take place including several upgrades along the Lakeshore East Line, enhancing accessibility, replacing concrete ties, demolishing structures, and improving bridges.

Metrolinx said it will replace four aging rail bridges in Toronto’s east end, creating space for expanded GO services and adjacent Ontario Line bridges. Construction will pave the way for faster, more frequent electric trains, as well as seamless connections to the Ontario line subway at the East Harbour Transit Hub.
