If bad weather was a crime Mother Nature would be in serious trouble this winter, said police as Durham battened down to face another bout of bad weather.

“If you have to venture out please drive with extra care,” it added.

Environment Canada last night forecast snow, heavy at times, with total accumulations of 5 to 10 cm, creating reduced visibility and slippery surfaces. Strong westerly winds gusting up to 60 kmh Tuesday could make travel diffuclt and bring down power lines.

“Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas,” it said.

Police reminded drivers to avoid unnecessary travel with deteriorating weather conditions. If you do have to go out onto the roadways, make sure your car is cleared of snow and ice and take it slow!

Muncipalities and utility firms were also on the ready.

Heavy snow and low visibility expected. Town operations staff treating roads/sidewalks, but please still take extra caution, said a Whitby advisory.

ElexiconEnergy said: “Our crews and system controllers are ready to respond to outages if they occur.”

Oshawa Power said with snowfall in the forecast, crews are ready to respond to potential service interruptions.
