Impaired and zipping away at excessively high speed

Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers may have been cold out at night – but not enough not to notice errant drivers.

North Division officers on pro-active patrol early Saturday located a driver travelling at an “excessively high rate of speed”, said the DRPS.

On examination, it was found the driver was impaired. “Arrive alive. Don’t drink and drive, and slow down!” said the police.

The 22-year old male from Scugog is facing five charges including impaired driving after he was caught driving 80kmh over the posted speed limit.

His licence was suspended and his vehicle impounded for 14 days, police said.

The incident happend at 1:35 am in Scugog near Simcoe Street and Scugog Street.

$2,000 fine

Meanwhile, DRPS East Division warned that winter driving can be hazardous. “Please drive to conditions!” it said while citing a driver clocked at 112 kmh in a posted 70 kmh zone.

The driver received six demerit points, a $2,000 fine, 30-day licence suspension, and 14-day vehicle impound.
