Impounded for stunt driving 55kmh above limit

Winter or no winter, some Durham drivers’ need for speed forces them to rush headlong on icy roads.

Or maybe it is their belief in the efficacy of their winter tires.

However, Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) officers were not amused to catch a driver skipping merrily away at 55kmh over the posted speed limit.

This driver (top image) was charged with stunt driving 135kmh in a posted 80kmh zone in Uxbridge, said officers from DRPS North Division.

The motorist received a 30-day licence suspension, 14-day vehicle impound and hefty fines.

“Please slow down and obey the speed limit,” officers added.

Meanwhile, DRPS Central West Division officers were on patrol last night keeping roadways safe by reducing impaired driving.

Everyone wins when nobody drinks and drives. Stay safe, they said.

They also pointed out that Thickson Road South toward Wentworth Street in Whitby is heavily traveled with trucks loaded for deliveries.

“Always give trucks space as they cannot brake or maneuver as easily as passenger vehicles,” they pointed out.
