Indian festival of colours – Holi – celebrated

The Indian community in Clarington recently celebrated the Holi, also known as the ‘festival of colours in Bowmanville.

Apat from members of the Indian community, the function was attended by Durham MPP Todd McCarthy and Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster (see top image).

Organizers said the Indian community was thrilled to bring a piece of their culture to make Canada culturally stronger. The function was held at Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex.

The participants were dressed in traditional Indian attire, and the fun-filled atmosphere was alive with music. The celebration began by putting Holi colour as ’tilak’ on the participants and cultural performances by attendees, who presented traditional Indian dance and music. The event also showcased a variety of Indian food and sweets.
