Pickering offers subsidized backyard tree planting

The City of Pickering is offering residents the opportunity to sign up for a subsidized tree/shrub planting program, offered in partnership with the Region of Durham and LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests).

The LEAF Backyard Tree Planting program offers subsidized native trees and shrubs for residential, multi-unit, and commercial property owners.

Participants can choose either the Full Service or Do-It-Yourself planting package.

The Full Service option provides participants with an in-person arborist consultation, a native tree, and a full planting service from experienced LEAF staff (for $160 to $230 per tree).

The Do-It-Yourself option offers a virtual consultation with an arborist, a native tree delivered to the participants home, and educational videos for planting (for $110 to $180 per tree). This option applies to front, side, and back yards.

To apply to the Backyard Tree Planting Program, visit yourleaf.org or call 416.413.9244.
